Storyline
In The Beginning
The year is 2021, the peak of human civilization. The World Powers brought forth their greatest researchers and scientist to under take Project Hope. Project Hope was actually a compilation of many sub-projects.
Project Kronos
Started : May 21st, 2021; 7:06 AM EST
Finished : October 1st, 2043; 8:46 PM EST
The main importance on Project Kronos was to study and perfect human preservation techniques. Cryogenics proved to be the most successful way. Many experiments went horribly wrong until a perfectly frozen human was thawed. It isn't sure but unfortunately psychosis is believed to be a side effect of this process.
Project Aeros
Started : May 21st, 2021; 7:00 AM EST
Finished : March 3rd, 2028; 4:24 PM EST
The next project to go under commission. It's mission was to figure a way to levitate and maintain stable flight of extremely heavy and massive object.
Project Dynamo
Started : May 21st, 2021; 7:02 AM EST
Finished : June 18th, 2040; 4:44 AM EST
Project Dynamo developed and perfected Fusion Energy gathering. Energy yield grew significantly and The Global Energy Crisis was over.
Project Omega
Started : May 21st, 2021; 6:55 AM EST
Finished : May 2nd, 2064; 7:06 PM EST
The Omega Project was by far the hardest and most deadly project. It was suppose to build a super powered weapon. At first it had the force of few thousand Hydrogen Bombs. People feared it with great intensity and protested it completion. Many attempts were made to destroy the labs and the developmental weapon. Many lives were lost by catastrophic failures by the sabotage done to the weapon.
Rise of the Perfected Floating City
In 2065, a new project was planned, Project Varia. The concept of Project Varia was to build a perfect city, completely self supporting. Completely independent of all outside extremities. To protect the city from the terrorists below, the city was lifted high into the atmosphere. With the population a little under half a million, it was completely independent from the Earth below.
Birth of the Novalith Arc Cannon
In order to complete the Omega Project, it's research and labs were moved to Varia. There they completed and built the one and only Novalith Arc Cannon. It's first test subject was Sedna, an astroid located faraway in the Oort Cloud. It was completely vaporized in less than 3.2 seconds. To demonstrate the power of Varia, the President of Varia constantly kept the Cannon to pointed at the Earth below.
The End Day
May 21st, 209X
THE END DAY
A riot broke out upon Varia, Saboteurs attacked the NAC control plant. In less than six minutes, the cannon charged and fired upon the Earth below. With in the last seconds of firing, one brave soul weakened the beam, he joined the Singularity, but lost his body in the process.
Civilization was destroyed.
The Earth's axis shifted and all creatures became mutated. Life would never be the same. Those surviving vowed not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Varia was reorganized and a republic was formed. Chancellor of the republic soon cut off all connection to prevent the mutation from effecting it. The cannon was disassembled and the pieces scattered across the Universe.
Rebirth
An era in which science and technology were shunned, for they had proved to be mankind's downfall, and the ancient arts of sorcery and magic were revived. As the survivors slowly rebuilt their world, towns and villages began to spring up, and the wisest and most capable of the magicians used their magic to keep order.
Peace reigned over the land for a hundred years...
Until a powerful magician named Agemo, intrigued by the forbidden ways of science and technology began to study the principles of machines and the City of Varia. Realizing the power he might wield if he combined his magic with technology, his mind became twisted by the urge to control and dominate his fellow men.
Agemo created a computer capable of simulating his magic powers. He soon attacked Varia politcally and soon enough became the Supreme Chancellor of it. He soon placed his computer on it and from this airborne fortress, he built and controlled his growing empire, until the entire planet was threatened by his ever-spreading evil.
In an attempt to combat Agemo, the other magicians constructed a series of powerful swords, along with powerful items to use with these swords. Combined they posed a threat to Agemo.
Learning of their idea, Agemo seized the weapons; but they had made them too well, and he was unable to destroy them. Knowing they could only defeat him if used together, Agemo scattered the weapons throughout the land and stripped the wise magicians of most of their powers.
Hope
It is said, one day, a mighty soul will come and gather the weapons and once and for defeat the horrid Agemo and destroy his empire. Could you be this hero?
Gameplay
Varia is unique in it's game play as in it is very forgiving. As you progress through the server there are certain choice that will change the the gameplay and story. With Varia's save feature, you can go back play through again and make a different decision.
Controls
Arrow Keys - Movement
Use the Arrow Keys to move around.
A - Grab/Push/Pull
Stand next to a Wall, NPC, Player, or Object to grab them. Once you have grabbed and object you can either push or pull the object by pushing down the arrow keys
S - Sword
With a sword equipped, you can slash in front of you to damage or attack the object.
D - Active Weapons
When selected, active weapons will be assigned to the D key, you can use active weapons more than once.
F - Passive Weapons
When selected, passive weapons will be assigned the F key, when you meet the right parameters, you will lose the Passive Weapon after use.
Q - Inventory
The Q key will open and close your current Character's Inventory. From here you can double click to equip or unequip weapons. You can also view your stats from here.
E - Stats
The E Key opens and closes your Stats Window. Here you can get a critical break down of your stats as well as be able to upgrade them after you level up or complete some quests/dungeons/missions.
P - Pause Menu
The Pause menu is probably one of the most vital keys to playing Varia. From the Pause menu you save your character, Permanently saving your characters stats, You can also return the character select screen or reconnect to the server. Alternatively, with the pause window open you can push S to Save the game, C to return the Character Select Screen, or R to reconnect.
tab - Chat Box
Pushing tab will open the chat box, There are four tabs from here.
- Global
- You can chat across Varia on this screen
- Local
- Only players in the same level of you can see your chat.
- Guild
- You can chat to other players in your guild from here privately.
- Party
- You can chat to other players in your party from here privately.
