I am only creating this page due to many owners of servers not understand what a placeholder actually means- this is just for information for new server owners, and that is it.

Placeholder: Server Name

In the event of a server owner passing down a server, but requesting a name change, the person who recieves the server must change the name unless the following:

The player goes and speaks to a global staff member, who has the power to change the server rights to that person only.

The player keeps the server in a development/staff only phase, and does not choose to open up until the name is changed (A placeholder)

Else, the player must contact a global staff member requesting a name change. If the ex. owner does not tell the new owner to change the name, then the new owner does not have to change the name.

Placeholder: Item

This is where many owners go wrong, using 'placeholders' in their server. If an owner chooses to use a placeholder, then that owner must consider these following factors:

  • Does the owner have proper permission to use this item (graphic, sound, level, gani, etc), or is the item a free use item (such as an item provided when you get the graal folders, you have been told it is free use by a global, or you have a written document from the website that you are using the item from that it is free use)?
  • If it is currently being used on another server, does the owner have permission from the owner of that server to use it on their server as a placeholder, or a full-time use image?
  • If not sure on a copyright, does the owner make sure that the placeholder/item is usable on their server by contacting a global or the creator of that item in the first place?

If the owner makes sure they have consent to use an item, then it will save a lot of hassle, the following things may happen if you use a placeholder without checking into it, or without proper permission:

  • If the owners server is currently on the hosted tab, and found to be stealing any item, even for use as a placeholder with no proper consent, the owners server will be kicked off the hosted tab, and will not be able to reapply for a number of weeks.
  • The owner will lose the item they had on there, and the owner will be investigated for more unconsented items.
  • The owner's reputation is almost guaranteed to go down if they choose to use an item without proper consent.
  • Any hope of the owners server going onto the classic list after being under management that has been known to steal is shot down quite a bit.

If another person believes a server is using an item without consent of an owner (EG from another game), then they have a few options.

  • The person should check to make sure that the content is not free use before jumping to conclusions, most global staff members have better things to do then to harrass a server owner for content that is free use.
  • If one owner of a server believes that another owner is stealing their content, then the owner should first talk to the owner who is believed to be stealing content, most arguments can be settled just by speaking to an owner.
  • If all else fails, and a person is 100% sure that a server is stealing content, then the smartest thing to do is to speak to a global staff member, if it is drastic, send a support ticket and show as much proof as possible.

I just made this to clarify what other owners found as a placeholder really wasn't, hopefully this helps people out.
