The #gscript community hopes that this site can provide a comprehensive and up to date resource of documentation of Graal's various features, which would be impossible without the great interactivity of a Wiki. Currently, the focus is mainly on technical aspects (GScript, Graal4) due to the technical nature of the community's interest, but the intent is to eventually provide guides to established playerworlds, various Graal-related communities and information on GraalOnline procedures.

The most well known and largest Wiki is most definitely the Wikipedia, and the first Wiki:WikiWikiWeb is part of Ward Cunningham's Portland Pattern Repository. Hopefully the obvious success of both, and the independence and open-mindedness of this Wiki, will encourage Graalians to similar greatness.

If you're new here, why not take a look at the master page listing or a random page to get you started? If you want to contribute to some work currently in progress, you might want to have a look at the recently changed pages as well. If you find a page that can be improved, you are invited to do so! You can also just use the Search function to find pages about topics that interest you, or start a new one if you cannot find one.

Also an interesting article could be List of Events, which contains all the happenings and events on Graal. Feel free to update if if something happens.

If you need help, consider joining the #gscript channel [irc://irc.freenode.org/gscript] and asking for advice.

Ben: Indented server options for better formatting

The server options are a collection of key=value configuration options that allow you to customize the non-scriptable behaviour of an individual Playerworld.

Usage
Options are usually set only by high Playerworld staff, preferably only the Playerworld owner, as they are very powerful and can be abused easily.

When you omit an option, its value will not be changed if the option has been used before. Therefore, it is more secure to change only the value and not whole option, should you need to change something.

Lines beginning with # are not parsed, and can be used for comments.

Known Server Options
Please add new options if you discover them.

Start location
startlevel=level name
startx=number
starty=number

This sets the originating location for all Players which do not have location statistics of their own saved locally.

Unstick me location
unstickmelevel=level name
unstickmex=number
unstickmey=number

These define the position that a Player is warped to after using the Unstick me command.

Protected Weapons
protectedweapons=list of comma seperated weapon names

NPC weapons that cannot be deleted by the Player. This differs from weapons with asterisk prefixed name which cannot be deleted with the Del key, but still can be deleted on the Clientside using the destroy command. `Protected' weapons can (unless *ified) be deleted with Del, but the NPC server will not remove them from the player's weapon list and thus the Serverside part will remain and the player obtains them again on the next connect.

Jail Levels
jaillevels=level names comma separated

Non-staff players in these levels will not be able to leave them. A Serverside setlevel2 or warping with RC is neccessary. Also, they can send PMs only to RC clients and not regular Clients.
, ,

Explosion Restriction
noexplosions=true/false

Disables the result of putexplosion, and `explosive' NPC weapons.

Statistic Restriction
setbodyallowed=true/false
setheadallowed=true/false
setbomyallowed=true/false
setswordallowed=true/false
setshieldallowed=true/false

Whether the chat commands to change the player's appearance are enabled. Defaults to true.

Gralat Loss Options
mindeathgralats=number
maxdeathgralats=number

Defines the amount of Gralats that the player drops on death.

Staff Gralat Restriction
normaladminscanchangegralats=true/false

Whether normal RCs can change the gralat count of a player. `Normal' used to be defined as `below Adminlevel 4', but nowadays is probably regulated by certain high-level Admin rights.

Local 'Staff Guilds'
staffguilds=comma seperated list of guild names

Matches to these Guild names appear in the `Staff' section of the playerlist (Delphi client only for now)

`Bush' Items
bushitems=true/false

Selects whether Bushes contain Items. May not work on a GMap.

`Baddy' Items
baddyitems=true/false

Selects whether baddies drop Items once killed.

`Healing' Swords
healswords=true/false

Selects whether is possible to have a negative Sword power and thus add Hearts to those hit by the sword.

Non-script timeouts
respawntime=number
horselifetime=number
baddyrespawntime=number

Timeout in seconds for respawn times for Bushes, Horses and Baddies

Server Scripting Flags
dontaddserverflags=true/false

Selects whether scripts can add new Server flags or only modify existing ones.

Server Maps
bigmap=maptext,mapimage,defaultx,defaulty
minimap=maptext,mapimage,defaultx,defaulty

Default serverwide Maps. Syntax resembles setmap and setminimap GScript commands.

Warping (All Players)
warptoforall=true/false
warptoforlowadmins=true/false

Whether all Players can use the Warpto command, and whether Global Admin level 1 allows warpto.

Warping Activation
warpto=false/true
ignorewarpto=true/false

Allows or disallows the default Warpto command for all staff, including Globals. This is normally enabled.

Note that warpto=false will show a "(warping is disabled)" error message to Player, whereas ignorewarpto=true will treat Warpto commands as just normal chat text and display no error message.

The latter is good for replacing the default Warpto command with a scripted version.

(History fact: Requested by Ibonic and implemented on Sept. 14, 2005.)

Ghost Mode
ghostmodeenabled=true/false
ghostmodefornotstaff=true/false

Selects whether all Players appear as Ghost, or only non-staff players, or nobody.

Playerlist Icons
playerlisticons=comma seperated list of statusses

Possible status list, Players can select one of them in the Players list. There must be a Downloadable file plisticonNAME.png available in a folder specified as `file' in Folder configuration.

Profile Variables
profilevars=comma seperated list of profile variables

Selects what is to be displayed in a Player's profile. The default variables are: playerkills, playerdeaths, playerfullhearts, playerrating, playerap, playerrupees, playerswordpower, canspin, largely modelled after Old GScript. Custom string variables can be added in the format `name=stringname'. If name is not specified, stringname is used.

Trial Account Limits
limitfreeplayers2=true/false

Selects whether to disable adding of Bombs, Arrows, and Explosions for Trial accounts.

AP System Activation
apsystem=true/false

Whether the AP system is enabled. If yes, there are some restrictions for Players with low AP regarding hearts.

Starting AP
startap=number

How much AP Players are given upon first login to this Playerworld.

Global Guilds Activation
globalguilds=true/false

Allows or disallows Guild from the Global database. This is normally enabled.

AP Timeouts
aptime0=number
aptime1=number
aptime2=number
aptime3=number
aptime4=number

Time (in seconds) it takes to recharge one point of AP when the AP is currently below 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 respectively. The defaults are 30, 90, 300, 600 and 1200.

Heart/Sword Limits
heartlimit=number
swordlimit=number

The maximum amount of fullhearts and swordpower that is allowed.

'putnpc' Scripting Command
putnpcenabled=true/false

Whether the putnpc command is enabled. (Mostly Deprecated)

Translation
enabletranslations=true/false

Selects whether the Translation system is enabled.
(TODO: Move this to the aforelinked article, or gscript articles:) If yes, signs and text in scripts in #U(text goes here) form will be saved in a text file where they can be translated into different languages. The files are to be found in the translations/ folder on RC.

Language Selection
translatedlanguages=comma seperated list of languages, like Deutsch,...

The languages of which a translation file shall be loaded by the server. (TODO: See above:) If a file exists, signs and #U() text will be replaced with values from this file.

Server Language
serverlanguage=language name

The default language of the Playerworld. Defaults to English.

NPC-Server 'Sleep'
sleepwhennoplayers=true/false

Whether the NPC Server must execute scripts even when no Player is around.

Tilesets
newtilesets=true/false
newtilesetlevels=comma seperated list of levels

Whether all Levels will use the new Tileset layout, or a match list of levels that shall. (Mostly Deprecated)

Staff
staff=comma seperated list of account names

The Accounts in this list will count as Playerworld staff as if their admin level was > 0. Their mass messages override the option to ignore mass messages, their Admin rights will be applied, and if their IP address range matches their actual IP address, they may log in to RC.

GMAP List
gmaps=comma seperated list of gmap files, without .gmap extension

The server will attempt to load these as GMaps. As this line might get rather crowded, it is possible to have multiple gmaps= lines.

Weapon Order
weaponorder=comma seperated list of weapon names

Specifies the order in which the NPC weapon scripts will be sent to the client upon connection. This can be used to ensure that the inventory script that disables the Q menu will be sent first, for example. First, all weapons in this list will be sent in order, then all unlisted weapons.

NPC-Control Rights
npcrights=true/false

Whether NC rights are active. For security reasons, it is strongly recommended to set this to true.

Kill Count
dontchangekills=true/false

Selects whether the Player's kill count is changed for each kill.

NPC-Server Nickname
nickname=string

The NPC Server will use this as its Nick name, with (Server) appended. Ignores all Guild tags.

Speedhack Tolerance
speedhacktolerance=number

This gives the percentage of data packages that clients may send above the expected over without being logged as Trainer users. On Graal Kingdoms, the rather conservative setting of 90 is used. If you set this too low, your server will crash.

Idle Disconnect
disconnectifnotmoved=true/false

Selects whether Idle Players are automatically disconnected. (Possibly deprecated).

Save Levels
savelevels=true/false

Setting this to true allows changes to the Tiles of Levels to be saved to the actual level files from scripting commands, so it is possible to persistently change the levels. Currently, this does not work with GMaps.

Some non-representative members of the community have experienced a tendency to be largely childish, easily influenced, and prone to act on whims rather than rules. Another non-representative member of the community attempts to excuse this lack of competence by the overwhelming effort that is necessary to hold this amount of staff position, although Spark911 himself has expressed his inability to handle the workload of moderating the forums.
At least one editor, however, considers Spark extremely competent, and he indeed manages to uphold this impression.

Spark has been reported to abuse his Accounts administrator position to manipulate lower-leveled Graal administration member's staff accounts based on corruption and lack of discipline. It is quite obvious to those involved on whose part this is, however some still defend unfounded disconnection/global ban/admin level reduction as a valid means of solving personal differences.

Also, Spark considers himself above the rights system, thus he is forced to abuse a bug in the Playerworld system to gain full access to playerworlds in order to deal with problems.
It's used on all Graal servers.
To use this command, a player must not move for 30 consecutive seconds. After that, saying "unstick me" will trigger it. (In older versions of Graal, it used to be "unstuck me"; however, both work in newer versions.)

General Analysis
Within the context of Graal, scripting is the act of writing NPC code, or any other block of GScript. A scripter, then, is a Graalian who actively scripts, though usually a person only needs knowledge of the language to qualify for the appellation. There are a few GScript groups/guilds, one of which is #gscript.

In the most common usage of the term, a server is a world to which the Graal client can connect. The word is somewhat misleading, since many worlds can be hosted on the same physical server, but it is prevalent nonetheless. The difference between the terms 'server' and a 'playerworld' is that the latter can't be used to refer to GraalOnline-operated worlds such as Graal Kingdoms. A playerworld is a server but a server is not necessarily a playerworld.

The term is also used to refer to the GServer that runs a given world.

The Q Menu is the standard Graal weapon selection system.
Pressing Q brings up weapons, in which the player can select weapons using the arrow keys and D, or clicking the weapon.
It contains support for bags. By using the Bagname/Weaponname format as the name of the weapon, weapons can be grouped. Normally, collected items (maybe Salt?) are not seen here. (However, the custom Graal Kingdoms Q Menu will display collected salt.)

The PNG abbreviation stands for Portable Network Graphics, and is an image format supported by all recent Graal clients. It is an open format, its libraries are open source, and it is generally considered superior to GIFs in almost every way (although PNGs do not support animation). However, Graal2 presently imposes odd restrictions on which PNGs it will display; specifically, the image must be a 256-color, non-interlaced, optimized octree image with either no or single color transparency - neither alpha blending and 32-bit color are supported.

Despite his ultimately nice character, many hate him. Clearly they must be blinded by his leetness.
Development Areas
Loriel thinks of himself as quite capable in Level making, to some extent, and especially NPC scripting. His Graphics editing skills are far less developed. However, he remains largely inactive.

In contrast, he has no clue at all of 3D development and is not interested either.

Loriel invests quite some time into `real' programming (C(++), Java and especially Ruby, some minor other things), though his skills are quite lacking in this area.

Staff Positions
Loriel only recently resigned from GST due to the bad management and coordination among the Global staff. In the past, Loriel also was Game Master/"Gaming Officer" and has held various other similar positions.

Previously, Loriel managed Graal2001 and has for a long time been responsible for it. Currently, he holds a minor development position on this pseudo-playerworld.

He liberally moderated the GCC:Future improvements, GCC:Tech support and GCC:NPC scripting subforums of the Graal Communication Center.

After his RC access was revoked by Spark911, assumedly in the name of Stefan, and his account was transformed to a mere Trial account by Unixmad, he is currently no longer associated with Graal.

A guild is a group of Graalians that can adopt a tag, specific to their guild.

Players can join multiple guilds and use the tags interchangeably on the same server. Indeed, it is possible to join a guild without ever wearing the tag. Some feel that this is missing the point.

Guilds can either be global, meaning that they can be used on any server (unless the staff have specifically prevented it), or local. On Graal Kingdoms, for example, there is one guild for each Kingdom. Since it would not make sense for them to be used on other servers, they have been defined as local guilds.

Local guilds can be freely created by server staff. However, global guilds must be approved by the Guild Admin, and this will only happen if enough players support their creation. Guilds whose names contain offensive words or copyrighted terms will most likely be rejected. Even if a guild is deemed acceptable, it will not be enabled until at least ten (?) Graalians have supported it through the Guild CP.

It is common that staff members will use guild tags to declare their role. NPCs are sometimes coded such that they only respond to somebody with a specific staff tag.
Gryffon Raku Lawrene Paparatski Raphael Raziel Rhodus Rhone Maha Raaj d'Obsydyon Kasandros Anlumen Crecendo Glaive Sebastien Elliott Durime aka Gryffon is a medium-low level RP-maniac with a penchant for going on long tangents about his love and desire for any and all forms of magic, magick, the occult, the arcane, the divine, the mystic, the weirding, foresight, premonition, telekinesis, runic galdur magic, or conjuring forth demonic piggies from the ninth circle of Hell. He also enjoys drag racing, light opera, and questing for the one episode of Daria he has been unable to locate.

Community
Gryffon is not exactly well known around the areas of Graal, but he has his circle, mostly those who have played Graal 2001 near the launch of Graal Kingdoms, and anyone who has been in Dustari long enough to know Baritol from Torub. He is a moderator of the Graal Communication Center's GCC:Graal2001 kingdoms subforum, which basically means he has access to the Moderators' Sandbox while needing to do very little moderating work. This arrangement seems to work well enough for Gryffon, though he sometimes wishes he could get a little more attention, in order to draw light to the causes he believes need attention.

Development Areas
Gryffon's scripting is nonexistent, his levels unskilled and unpolished, his graphics steadily improving but still total rubbish. However, Gryffon is an exquisite story designer, specializing in highly detailed world scenarios. He can rattle off to you the natural and social laws of an imaginary world he just made up that can teeter on the levels of Tolkein and Nix, define esoteric aspects, develop cultures, and plan cities all in a week, and then move on to a brand new world the next.

Staff Positions
Currently, Gryffon is the Kingdoms Administrator of Graal 2001 and its Project Manager (emphasis on Project, not Manager); Project Manager and RP Administrator of Something Else*, Events Master of Graal Kingdoms, and moderator on the Graal Communication Center.

Past employment, though transient, has included Story Developer of Angel's Server, and Scenario Designer for Symphony and its later incarnation, Project iGraal.

On Graal, global means something that has a meaning across all servers:
* Global guilds are guilds that are valid on every world.
* Global staff have the power to log onto RC on every world (see GST, GGT and PWA, Graal administration).
* A Global RC is the name given to the RC of a global staff member - the program has no differences from a regular RC, but can log on to every world.
* Global rights are rights given to global staff which are available to them on every world.
* Global bans are bans which forbid the player from connecting to any world (and also logging in to the forums).
* Global messages are messages that certain global staff can broadcast to every RC connected to every world.
The word "global", given on its own, is almost always used to refer to global staff, but "globalled" is occasionally seen as a shortened form of globally banned, as in "<tt>Newbie17: lol dude u got globalled</tt>".

<b>Database NPCs</b> are NPCs stored in an NPC Server. They are given a user-defined NPC name (#N) and can warp to anywhere on a server.

NC contains a section for administering Database NPCs, including editing the script, this. flags, viewing Variables and resetting them. This allows an Admin to change things about the NPC which cannot be done in-game without another NPC.

Database NPCs are usually Serverside to be able to function simultaneously with multiple players, warp, use with, etc, so they can work with players and other database NPCs in a collaborative way. Your Database NPC may be used as a Guild Manager, so it needs to interact with the player and server.

Database NPCs can use canwarp/canwarp2 to warp with Level warp Links, and level boundaries on normal Maps.
They are also given GMap coordinates when on a GMap (i.e. 120,110 would be 60,50 in level b2).

Appearance commands are a series of chat commands that many Playerworlds which still use the Basic systems offer to enable Players to change their character's look. Almost all worlds offer the following four, followed by a filename, that will be used to set the respective property.

* sethead
* setbody
* setshield
* setsword

These allow for the player's basic attributes to be changed, but not for the colours of the player's body to be customized. It is fairly hard to document these, as there are so many different systems in use, but the global syntax setpart color is in fairly high use. part can be substituted with skin (or glove on some servers), coat, sleeves (sleeve on some servers), shoes (shoe on some servers), or belt, and color with white, yellow, orange, pink, red, darkred, lightgreen, green, darkgreen, lightblue, blue, darkblue, brown, cynober, purple, darkpurple, lightgray, gray, black or transparent (which displays as black and has done so for a while now). Other worlds use the syntax /part color, others set part color, /set part color, and some don't offer these commands at all. Remember to check these commands, as they vary across worlds.

The Deek is a creature forced into a life of secrecy. Described as a tall person of elven origin, he served in the past as a high paladin of Queen Dallandara's holy court. His strength is exquisite, and his swordsmanship is unmatchable from any of his land. From this he gained a respectable reputation, and also some enemies, of these was the woman named Hiram, married to David. Jealous that Deek was much better than David, she devised a plan to gain control of the land and exile the paladin. Driven by the devil like a raging storm, she ran David's sword through Dallandara and forced the power of the land into her own hands. The life of him and his sister's now being threatend, he had but no choice but to leave the land that he once protected and adored, and to live a life behind curtains and undisclosed locations, fearing the protection of his sister and the threat of Queen Hiram's skilled assassins on his fingertips.

The most well known and largest WikiPedia:Wiki is most definitely the Wikipedia, and the first Wiki:WikiWikiWeb was Ward Cunningham's Portland Pattern Repository.
Hopefully the obvious success of both, and the freedom and openness of this Wiki, will encourage Graalians to similar creativity.
There are many "broken" links that lead to yet uncreated articles. You are encouraged to write some text for those articles, even if it is just a bit to get the page started. You are also encouraged to link to other non-existent pages to promote their creation, but please check first whether a similar page already exists.
If you're new here, why not take a look at the master page listing or a random page to get you started?
Repeatedly, this wiki has been the target of vandalism (Imporant message to Unixmad and GraalOnline). Those who enjoy such activity are clearly not aware of the technical finesse of the Wiki that allows us to revert the changes, and also have chosen the wrong target as this wiki is critical enough of Graal already.

Anthony Thomas aka Spark911 is a long-time member of the community.

Community
Spark911 is a rather popular member of the Graal community. It is debatable whether his popularity based on his admin position.

Spark911 currently serves as Playerworld administrator and Accounts administrator of GraalOnline, and as GCC:Super moderator of the Graal Communication Center.
